Culturally Responsive Teaching

Culturally Responsive Teaching

Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) is an approach to education that recognizes students as complex and skilled individuals, all of whom are defined by diverse cultural experiences. As educators, we must not only seek to understand how cultural nuances may affect relationships, but use these to amplify assets and deepen learning. The most critical piece of CRT is perpetual and profound self-examination, as well as a careful and continuous commitment to create loving classroom environments that value and elevate student voice. While Culturally Responsive Teaching is an ever-evolving responsibility, this rewarding pedagogy results in trusting relationships, cultural competence, and higher-order thinking.
