Access
Accessibility is transformative. Whether that pertains to accommodations for someone with a disability, or connecting families to services that improve well-being, the power of access cannot be denied. As a transformative educator, I pledge to challenge the systemic inequity of opportunity by creating and demanding high-quality, comprehensive and equitable educational experiences. Despite global pandemics or other obstacles, it remains my responsibility to pursue alternative paths that not only continue to open doors for students and families for years to come, but allow them to discover the keys that already exist within them. Exposure to diverse people, places and resources deepens my students’ learning, strengthens family partnerships, builds/expands interests and most importantly, maintains that spark of curiosity young children inherently have. This work demands constant commitment, creativity and perseverance. But we are teachers. We specialize in overcoming the odds. In the words of Obama, “If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.” For the sake of our students, their families and ourselves, we must keep walking towards equitable accessibility.
